My work is affected as much by my experiences as I am by my environment. I get excited by disparate elements that coexist and the imagery that emerges from the collision course created in their space. Change is my constant companion and influences how I approach my work. The basic process of birth, age, death, rebirth or create, decay, repair, renew are inherent as I happily build and destroy each piece. I find success when I can let go of my control a bit and discover the creation of a new idea. The memory of the process is left bare for all to see. I find, repeat and discard motifs that facilitate my experience of the surface. I need each mark, each color to be very live in relationship with each other. I primarily paint on paper and my process includes layer on layer of drawing and my own hybrid of transfer painting; adding and subtracting along the way.

I am a NY based artist working primarily in my studio in Ulster County, NY. Like so many creatives, I am affected as much by my experiences as I am by my environment. Whether in a forest or a city, I get excited by the disparate elements that coexist and the imagery that emerges by accident. I find and repeat motifs that facilitate my experience of the surface. I work from a basic process of birth, age, death, rebirth or create, decay, repair, renew. I primarily paint on paper and my process includes layers of drawing and my own hybrid of transfer painting; adding and subtracting along the way. I find this helps me achieve the element of surprise that I need in a piece. My sculptures are predominantly stoneware and wire, pieced together in an unrevered way. Currently, I am obsessed with perimeters. I find that while making marks allows me to move through the space and is more grounding, making shapes allows me to focus on form; I vacillate between the two. Typically, I work on several pieces simultaneously beginning with the same color palette and similar motifs… where they end up is the surprise.
