I recently returned from a trip to Italy. Traveling is exciting, yet when you return home, the memory fades and you wonder if it was as magical as you remembered. The landscape blurs and as much as you want to remember the experience and relive it, you can not help but be trapped by the restrictions of your mind. Plus, those cypress trees are too cute.

My father, a civil engineer, took me on tours of jails and prisons in my youth simultaneous to my religious, celestial grooming in enclosed institutions. This exposure to vast landscapes and constrained, invasive dwellings continues to shape my artistic career. I am intrigued by the contradiction of being in a place yet not being the place, that there is always a link and separation between structure and freedom.
