ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece is a combination of passions combined with a quote and not a little irony inspired by the Abstract Expressionists, Pop Art and colourists such as Hockney. The posters were torn from the streets of Brighton over approximately a period of a year and the use of bright colours reflects the dynamic use of colour to attract attention in the city. Torn and ripped, these poster rips make little sense but instead reflects the nature of information in these times: instant, transient with a one minute impact. They also give a textured backdrop to a lovely quote that, "all art is useless". Possibly it is but it does have its, "quite uses" as well. This play on words adds another level to this piece which I hope screams out and talks and at the same time keeps the viewers attention for more than a minute.
