Canadian artist Eric McCuaig's work explores landscapes, the tension between the figurative and abstraction in painting, and is inspired by memories. McCuaig's paintings have been sold privately to collectors in the USA, Singapore and Canada. Asked to describe his painting style - “It’s primitive, but every work takes a lot out of me. I paint until somehow the image looks right, or it captures the mood I wanted to convey, then I stop. Floating on the edge of abstraction and the figurative. That’s my style.” 2018 was a year to explore abstraction in more detail. While earlier works 2013-2017 had some identifiable figurative elements, these 2018 works increasingly turn to pure abstraction and an attempt to paint from the mind's eye. The themes that are explored in 2018 relate primarily to memory - it's melancholy, it's ability to excite, to deceive, to cause guilt and to comfort.
