Nightfall Print

'Nightfall' is one print in a series of six from the 'Dark Moon with Yucca Tree' series. It was inspired by road trips through the American West, a visit to Joshua Tree National Park and my lemon tree. When painting this series I was thinking about how shapes in nature sometimes look like they are about to form a perfect pattern unless they were to break apart into randomness. I wanted to use color and form to paint the place where a rhythm almost begins. I first worked with acrylic paint to build up many thin layers and then switched to oil paint for depth of color and transparency. The actual paintings for this series were painted on a set of 8 foot tall rolling doors. Before installation, I had a high resolution, large format scan made of each door, so as to be able to reproduce the paintings at the highest print quality with attention to brush strokes and layered details.
