Anna Belleforte creates architectural scenes, drawing on observation, memory and imagination. As a historic preservation architect she learned that architecture has a vocabulary of forms we instinctively recognise and that buildings can trigger a range of emotions. She seeks not nostalgia, but a representation of what shapes and spaces mean to us, and where there may be symbolism related to our life experiences. The mixed media work involves repurposing old maps or books, painting them in transparent colours, and cutting & pasting pieces to build compositions. In this way she turns a remembered (or imagined) place into something tangible. She is inspired by traditional architecture worldwide. The artist also works on commission, incorporating personal maps and/or depicting buildings special to you.
