Victorian woman Painting

The artist is from Slovakia. He studied at the Department of Fine Arts of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. During his studies he mainly worked on installations, some of which were exhibited in the Tatra Gallery in Poprad. He considered the main goal of his work to be the search for the connection of the physical and spiritual world with art. At present he paints in oil, which he considers a pleasant relaxation. His work is dominated by the figure and portraiture, while in the past he often drew inspiration from his private life. His paintings are often dominated by women as a symbol of youth but also of maturity. The paintings exude a dreamy or defiant quality and at the same time a calmness that is often complemented by a soft light. In his contemporary work, he combines realistic elements with abstract painting and highlights the problem of how women present themselves and how they are perceived in society. He is not afraid of experimenting, refining and trying different painting techniques in oil. His work is influenced by the paintings of the old masters, who inspired him in his early youth. There is a calm lightness and positivity to his paintings, often caused by dreamy expressions. In his work, Michal Frtús usually foregrounds female subjects in a variety of poses. The faces are often dreamy, sensual and tender. He considers women to be the embodiment of beauty, harmony and motherhood, and still sees them as the greatest inspiration for artists throughout human history. In his oil paintings, he works with a variety of colours that can captivate the viewer's eye. The artist's work is based on classical painting, which he combines over time with an enriching abstract design. Occasionally he uses spatulas in his work to give the painting a rougher expression, which he harmoniously complements with delicate portraiture and figuration.
