ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is an extra large oil painting of London from the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben to the London Eye and beyond. It shows the flow of the River Thames and the bridges straddling it in to the distance. London stretches out and the buildings and landmarks are shown on the horizon. I was inspired to paint this scene as I wanted to show the shear size of this magnificent city. The iconic buildings are picked out like the London eye and Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. And on the horizon are the offices and buildings. I took delight in painting the Oxo Tower just visible on the right hand of the painting. This is a very large painting which I felt did this view of London justice . It is painted in a contemporary way using pure colours which I felt added to this. It is painted on a deep edge canvas and is ready to hang.

My childhood was spent in Sussex where I developed a love of the rolling hills and country side. After Art college I moved to London where I continued painting. I discovered pastel painting a few years ago which I love for its brilliant pure colours. I found the light and rich colours of the South of France could be caught using using this medium. After visiting New York, where I had an exhibition , I was very interested in the awesome buildings and am currently painting a series of cityscapes of New York and London.Patricia is influenced by the French Impressionists.Working in oils and pastels, producing still lifes, landscapes and nudes of scenes that range from Twickenham to St.Tropez, Patricia's resulting work reflects the vibrant colours and brilliant light of the South of France.Patricia was recently made a member of the Society of Women Artists.
