The “Shake It All About” collection got its name because the Hokey Pokey is pretty much a metaphor for life is it not? We put one foot in, take one foot out, put our whole selves in, turn ourselves around, etc etc? We can try stuff. We can get loose and silly and work on holding things lightly and we see what unfolds. I hope this will remind us of all of that. DETAILS: This piece is an 11x14” birch panel I’ve covered in raw canvas. The shapes are cut and painted canvas stapled to the panel. It’s extremely tactile, adding a pop of bright, fun texture to any space. Signed & dated on the back, ready to hang.

I’m Jess, an artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. My work is about the way that beautiful images can disrupt and change our habitual ways of thinking and looking — and ultimately change us. My work is very intuitive. It’s informed and inspired by color sensation, minimalism, and experiential “light and space” art movements. I work on each image until I feel everything click into place: that feeling of “rightness” tells me the work is done. I work in series — like chapters in a book or verses in a song. Each one feels like it’s part of a whole that’s always growing and surprising me. My hope is that each piece serves as an invitation, a portal, a totem: a way of getting more deeply attuned to who you are and who you can become. I create my work digitally on a touchscreen with my fingers. The digital techniques I've been developing for a few years are a hybrid of painting, screenprinting and collage. I then print the images using pigment ink on thick,100% cotton fine art paper. Each of my prints is an original work, not a reproduction. The completed prints are completely archival. I’m proud to say my work is up on the walls of collectors in New York, L.A., London, Paris and everywhere in between. Hope you enjoy your time here — and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to connect!
