Candida Slater

I am an abstract artist. My studio is in Wimbledon Art Studios, London. The underlying theme of my work is hope and revival. I paint monochromes, using subtle shades of blue, black, cream and ochre to create textures, shapes and balances. I try to catch the fleeting nature of experience, acknowledging that our perception of reality is filtered through the lens of our own emotions and interpretations of light. I also love the emotional power of deep,saturated colours and this year created a series of paintings entitled "After the Rain." These record the joy of life and colour returning after days of grey cloud and rain, intensified by the humid air. I am particularly influenced by Constable, Turner, the Abstract Expressionists and Colour Field, but I have loved art all my life so inspiration comes from a wide field.
