Earlier last year, someone challenged me to create a House of Cards…in GLASS. Though I am still working with hand painted glass, the thematic direction I took with this challenge 360 degrees different from my current Animal Tales or Glass Menagerie series. The initial result was this series of 3 pieces, which can be sold separately**, but the political metaphor works best when all three Sculptures (The House Wins, Idiocracy & The Downfall) are seen together. "The House Wins" a sculpture in the Glass House of Cards Series. A House of Cards exhibits a kind of fragile stability, this piece is a reminder that the house often wins. 20 Hand-cut, Hand-painted glass cards (both sides). Permanently bonded. “Idiocracy” a sculpture in the Glass House of Cards Series. Too many Jokers in the house can really shake things up…not always for the better. 24 Hand-cut, Hand-painted glass cards (both sides), Permanently bonded. "The Downfall" a sculpture in the Glass House of Cards Series. Once the stability is shaken, the house will start to fall...to fail. 30 Hand-cut, Hand-painted glass cards (both sides) and a hand cut, painted card box. Permanently bonded. **See them listed separately on my Saatchi page

This Saatchi site is linked with : https://www.schriebersmith.com Schrieber-Smith is a multidisciplinary artist whose processes have evolved full-circle from glass, to mixed media assemblage, to painting, and now back to glass. Schrieber-Smith produces work in themed series such as the Paper-Doll series, the Neo-Mythology Series, the Working Women of the World series, the Glass Menagerie Series, the Glasscape Series and most recently the Animal Tales Series. The Glass Menagerie series began in May 2013, when she married her assemblage, painting and glass skills resulting in a whole new sculptural direction with open-ended imagery and mystery. The Animal Tales series couples her love of animals with her love of stories. Once again repurposing materials…this time books. The books are chosen to compliment the animal portrait. The portraits are a combination of glass painting and reverse painting on glass. The books are manipulated and adorned to compliment the painting which becomes affixed to the book. It is her intention for the artworks from both the Glass Menagerie Series and the Animal Tales Series to give new purpose and new meaning to the debris of our civilization. When not in the studio or in the classroom, Schrieber-Smith explores the world. Her extensive travel experiences in Europe, South America and Asia are an ongoing influence in both her artwork and her teaching. In 2016, Schrieber-Smith was honored by her Alma Mater with an induction into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame. Schrieber-Smith has works are in public and private collections both nationally and internationally. http://saatchiart.com/schrieber-smith http://www.schriebersmith.com
