Artist born on December 20th, 1958 in Mexico. Currently works and lives in Mexico City. Has worked in Paris, Barcelona, Hong Kong, London, New York and Tailand.I belive that painting is the essential element of art. Through my carreer I have specialized in both drawing and painting, but I have also worked with other techniques such as sculpture and installation, which I have been using recently in a more regular basis. I consider my work as a hybrid between drawing and painting. It starts off fundamentally as a drawing that becomes a receptor of quick ideas and then a tool for making paintings. In my beginnings, drawing was a fundamental instrument for me, foremost, because of the usage of the line, the form and their qualities; then, the interpretation of the form and later to reach the essence of it: the synthesis, which has become a symbol for me, a concept, and the genesis of the oeuvre. In some of my paintings a common element is the recycling of the canvases; I rework them on several occasions so they contain invisible traces of an internal search to find raw materials, which result in reinvention. I try to make these paintings a battleground, where through different scenes, a reconstruction of the imaginary takes place, and at the same time, the spectators are left with a signal of hope for the future. I have almost always worked in series that are generally the result of others that surge from the former, but visually represent completely different things. All of my work sets off from rough sketches, however elementary, but loaded with a great significance which can turn into something as important as the finished work. I explore the thought and the natural and domestic world, and my work is the representation of a conceptual process related with own experiences, with feelings or with meticulous observation of the environment. I’m interested in conserving the image and idea of the fact and the effect of an act, not of its proceeds or final results and I look not to imitate it, but to evoke it, do it spontaneously like things happen in nature. The gesture is important because it is the image itself of a specific, unique and unrepeatable moment. I search the relationship between men and also between men and nature, how they are mutually affected and how they create between them, sometimes, ties of mutual destruction.
