Insomnia Sculpture

Cosme Herrera is a Cuban sculptor born and raised in Havana, based in Austin, TX. USA. He began as a wood carver in the Havana area in late 1998. He started off by carving and exhibiting his first sculptures at the Malecon Art Fair. In 2004 his life changed as he migrated to the United States with his family and the love for his art took a back seat as he acclimated to his new life. It wasn’t until 2014 that Cosme decided to experiment with Soap, a singular material, and it was then that He created his first soap sculpture “help me”. Though born out of necessity, this practice became his signature style and has culminated in his iconic soap series. Fast forward to2021, he got married and a year later they welcomed their baby girl. It was after the birth of his daughter that he was inspired to share his art with the world and created his professional Instagram account. 2022 helped him eased into the gallery world by exhibiting his first miniature sculpture in the 2022 Far Away Places (Online Exhibition) at Las laguna Art Gallery, Laguna Beach, California. 2023 Firenze Contemporary Group Show at the Rossocinabro Gallery, in Rome, Italy. In May The Other Art Fair in Dallas TX USA. In August art comes alive at ADC fine art , runner up award. Today, 19 sculptures later with 4 more in process, Cosme is actively producing work and slowly learning to trust his love for carving as the guide for his art
