Born in 1950 in Sarajevo, former Yugoslavia.

Maja Ilic has been fond of art since childhood. She grew up in an artistic environment and had great support from her parents in learning how to appreciate art. This has helped her understand and love art to this very day. During the most difficult time in my life, Maja confessed, when I thought all had come to an end, when I could see no way to a better tomorrow, I had something to share my situation and feelings with. That something was paper, pencil and my metal plates, and from them I drew enough strength for me to survive. In her work Maja focuses on pure symbolism of content and form (the trinity, quadrangle, numbers as symbolism) and symbolism of things in nature (birds of prey, poppy fields, leaves, etc.). It is the invisible in nature which is her inspiration. Maja has recently started transposing her graphic inspiration into photography.

It has been said that art is the harmony of life. Maja Ilic adds to this: Harmony of life and NATURE. Life and art are one and they cannot be separated.

My inspiration comes from the miracle of substance in the simplicity of its presence, right next to us, here in nature where inspiration and realisation, light and dark, the beauty and ugliness of our everyday life go hand in hand.

Maja Ilic worked in several techniques,,acquatinta, radirung, dry point and etching. She started work in big formats and is now working in small formats using the techniques of mezzotinto, dry point sometimes in combination with etching.
