This artist's book narrates the stories of ten Mexican women and their experience with gender-based violence. Each story contains both a narrative and a portrait I made of them. Texts and images were created using aluminum printmaking in two colors and then I made embroidery interventions on each image. Finally, I made the bookbinding with thin cardboard and hand-embroidery on cotton fabric, using Oaxaca traditional embroidery. This was a way to re-connect with my mother's family since they are from Oaxaca. Every element in this piece, from the images to the bookbinding, was made to refer to femininity, tradition, beauty, suffering and healing process.

Mexico
Sometimes I draw. Sometimes I paint. Sometimes I make objects. But most of all, I make artists' books. For me, the book is a sacred, magic object. One that has different kinds of power in it, from a time - capsule that shows specific events, cultural heritage, family stories, to a strong critical voice. Whenever I paint, I focus on form and color. Color has been always interesting for me and I keep exploring its possibilities. I also integrate drawing-like strokes into painting in order to create something in between. Finally, Drawing manifests itself within my work either on paper, graphic arts such as printmaking or litography and in embroidery. For me, Embroidery is at the same time, drawing and writing. In terms of subject, I reflect about memory, melancholic figures and gender-based violence. I find today's world manifests through these atmospheres.
