Pierre Méliès, Photographer-Explorer of the Invisible, was born in the heart of the mystical forests of the town of Herzberg am Harz, in Germany in the 1980s. Enthralled from an early age by the ancestral legends of the region, his pronounced taste for stories of witches and haunted houses, will later awaken his passion for black and white photography. In 2001, he lives in China and joins the Beijing Film School Academy where he learns the techniques of Cinema in Mandarin. Upon his return to France, he entered the 'Conservatoire Libre du Cinema Francais' in Paris to study lighting, film editing and directing actors among others. He obtained the title of First Assistant-Director. Afterwards, he participated in several cinematographic projects, from documentary films to music videos, to short films in 35mm. The years go by and the Cinema leaves little by little the place to his first love: Photography. From 2010, his style becomes clearer the day he comes across a book entitled 'In Ruins' by photographer Sir Simon Marsden. This revelation will lead him to various photographic experiments, pushing him to treat his photos in an unconventional way, with the aim of making them more and more oppressive. His insatiable curiosity pushes him to travel off the beaten track, in search of surprising stories, from the haunted castles and forgotten ruins of Scotland, to the frozen lakes of Lapland and the temples of Koh Tarutao (Devil's island) in Thailand. His favorite subjects are places full of history such as old houses, castles, churches and various ruins. From 2019, he creates a collection called 'Hauntiques' gathering his pictures on the theme of haunted places. Today he lives in the south of France.
