Single Use Planet - Limited Edition of 30 Photograph

I like to shoot otherworldly and sometimes melancholic underwater images. I made this particular piece of work as a way of reflecting my sadness about how much plastic waste is being dumped into our oceans. This image is a combination of 10 photographs, meticulously stitched together in Photoshop. The idea behind the composition is that the figures holding the plastic sheets would depict the vision of a world map, albeit a loose and not immediately obvious depiction. I like to make images that have layers of thought and meaning and so the title ‘Single Use Planet’ seemed fitting for this piece. In order to improve in my underwater photography, I have trained as a freediver. Along with my model, we practise breathing and relaxation exercises so that we may encounter the wonder of the underwater world for longer periods - without the use of scuba equipment. Together we experience the thrill of holding our breath and diving deep down into our underworld. It is here that I feel the most alive and in touch with myself as an artist.
