Ian Davies was born in Salford in the North West of England. He began his career photographing the local Manchester bands of the late 1980's and in particular touring with the Happy Mondays. After moving to London in the early 1990's, Ian began working for leading cutting edge magazines, The Face, i-D, Vibe, Spin and RayGun, photographing many of the world's leading music and fashion artists, including Bjork, Sir Paul Smith, David Bowie and Jean Paul Gaultier. His work for the American magazine RayGun and MTV's Blah Blah Blah helped to develop his "catching the moment" and "raw energy" style of photography and this brought him into contact with both fashion and advertising agencies, allowing him the opportunity to work on campaigns for MTV, Sony, Marlboro, Carling and fashion campaigns for J.Lindeberg, K-Swiss, Umbro and Levi's amongst others. Ian's work is internationally recognised from shooting with Maximo Park for the artwork of their debut album 'A Certain Trigger' and Manchester band James for the artwork 'Whiplash' to his portraits of David Bowie for a book project for RayGun and portraits of Joe Strummer, Deborah Harry, Amy Winehouse, Michael Stipe, Beck, Charlie Watts and Aerosmith. Ian Davies is represented by the Fouzia Madani Agency:
