Irene Neno Diaz is a Mexican, American artist. Also known as Neno, her photograhy and paintings are in private collections in Mexico, Canada, Greece and the United States. She lives and works in San Antonio, Texas. Art Statement Cleaning a narrow well as a child is what started it all. From the beginning the process of using my eyes to see light as I looked up to the sky was an escape from darkness. Transforming light into a rainbow of brilliant images created a vehicle for inner vision to outer reality. My work focus on the environment and my Hispanic culture, The remains of fiestas, confetti, parades, confetti, papel picado, all scattered into ready-made, used to unify the abstract works. The destruction of man, the development of bigger houses, shopping centers, are the consequence it is having on nature and wildlife. Inspired and invigorated and in awed by the magic of how creation occurs is what moves my eyes to recapture what once belonged to the earth. I put myself in danger by trespassing into work sites to document what is happening on the beautiful landscape of the hill country in Texas. With movement and the perfect natural light, I use my eyes to capture the remains of the materials left behind by the construction crews. Plastic, garbage, soda bottles, dead trees, heavy machinery all bound together to produce a unique image. The subject matter of each body of work determines different materials that were left at the worksite. The distorted brilliant images become abstract with the movement of my body and camera. I use this process to protect the identity of the construction site that I am trespassing. All in hopes of making visible what is overlooked by people. With the use of photography I am able to use motion to reveal a beauty that once was and no longer exsits. With natural light and eyes wide opened, I give life to the beautiful forms in my photography. I want my viewer to emerge in the rays of natural light. I intend to pass on the brilliant energy that motion creates while we all move in this beautiful world. Irene Neno Diaz lives and works in San Antonio, Texas.
