ESPERANZA Photograph

Born in Hove England. Currently living in Barcelona Spain. From the very beginning of my professional life I have worked in fashion and advertising. Starting out as a model then later in 1991 turning to fashion photography. There I was able to use all the knowledge I had acquired in the previous years. In about 2000 I started to work on personal projects, and gradually move into more artistic work, which also had an influence on the way I approached my fashion and editorial works in latter years. I also participated whenever possible in group exhibitions and the occasional competition. By 2009 I had made the decision to dedicate one hundred per cent to art, and to start building up a body of work. I discovered that I like to work on projects that have continuity, I find working on a series or collection of images on a particular subject, very rewarding. In September 2009 while touring the Island El Hierro in the Canerys' I came across an extensive pine forest that had been devastated by fire a few years before. Mist was passing through which made the scene all the more interesting to photograph. At the time I could not have imagined that the few images I was about to shoot would be the starting point of a project that I still continue to pursue. Through a friend I met a curator who liked the few misty images I had taken in the burnt forest, she thought it was a subject that would be worth exhibiting and encouraged me to work harder. For almost eighteen months I investigated and pursued the forest fire. Always taking the photographs a few weeks or months after the fire. In January 2011 fourteen images were accepted for an exhibition in "The Barcelona Design Gallery" The exhibition "Smoulder" opened on the 29th of September 2011. The photographs were printed in large format, on Dibond Aluminum. The pieces measure from 150x100 to 250x150cm. In March 2012 the exhibition "Smoulder" moved on to the "TDesign Studio & Gallery" in Vigo Galicia. More of my works can be viewed in the BDG The Barcelona Design Gallery.
