Callanish is a cross shaped group of standing stones erected 5,000 years ago on the Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides islands of Scotland. Callanish is sometimes called the Stonehenge of the North. The Isle of Lewis is also the hereditary lands of the highland Scottish clan of the McCleods. My mother is descended from the McCleods and I believe it is quite possible that these stones were erected by descendants of the McCleods. I dragged a couple hundred pounds of large format camera equipment to the Isle of Lewis and Skye and then onto the Orkney isles specifically to shoot these ancient stone circles that are found throughout Europe as I have always felt they tell a story of our human history that has not been fully told yet. This 16x20 inch silver gelatin print was enlarged from an original in camera shot 8x10 inch negative. It has been archivally printed, processed and stored and is a one off print made during 2006 with a Devere 8x10 enlarger.

Australian born, I have lived and worked on 5 continents over the past 30 years and have been involved in the creative media fields for more than 25 years. I have been interested in photography since a boy and am most attracted to alternative process photography and the traditional and vintage printing formats. Over the years I have shot with all types of cameras but prefer large format and often use an 8x10 camera for producing large size negatives required for many of the vintage printing processes such as platinum or albumen printing. During the late 80's thru the mid 90's I was part of the video/performance art group Hyperdelic Video. Hyperdelic was based in Tokyo and then San Francisco. During that time, Hyperdelic produced and directed both live-video VJ performances and music videos for many of the musicians and DJs that were part of the early electronic dance music movement of the 90s. I also worked closely with many in the alternative/underground community in the United States, including Timothy Leary during this time, producing videos and real-time VJ'ing during Tim's lectures and public appearances.
