Julia Flit is a London-based photographer originally from Kazakhstan. Over the past 10 years, her style of work has evolved from journalistic and commercial photography to staged artworks that reflects her dreams and emotions. Currently, her photographs exude brightness, vibrancy, and a sense of provocation. They serve as a testament to the whimsical and the ethereal, erasing boundaries between dreams and reality while provoking exploration of identity, memory, and subconsciousness. Julia's primary focus is on underwater photography, where she plays with the fluidity of water, orchestrating and shaping this ever-changing element into a series of reflective mirrors pointed at the subject. Her work revolves around the concept of ‘timelessness’; there is no young or old water. It’s an arcane concept of the human mind, the closest concept to infinity we can materialise in our thoughts. Flit believes water is a medium of infinite reflections and perceptions, and her goal as an artist is to document its choreography of light. In her artistic process photo editing has no place except for minor colour correction. Julia use unique techniques and materials to create vibrant bursts of colour. This way, she is able to highlight different layers of consciousness by altering the speed of light.
