Usually my artwork is a mixture of drawing, painting, and printmaking on a paper. There's no edition where I can print multiple copies of one work, but there are variations of different images created from a same woodcut. The theme I have been interested in and expressed for a long time is landscapes; not landscapes as we see with our own eyes but the landscapes within ourselves. I just instantaneously draw all of my outer world, inner world, world of consciousness and unconsciousness, and instinct images that pop up in my mind unconsciously as they were in my genes. All of these worlds come from what I saw, heard, and felt throughout my entire life. In my works, one can find concrete images such as sound, wind, ocean, sky, island, darkness, and light, but an overlap of emotional images such as love, hope, passion, and despair can be found also. Just like our lives which are full of continuous overlap of afterimages of our past and images of present, my works are overlap of many different images and colors that turn into abstract, monotonic art just like multiple exposure photos. The woodcuts I use are low-priced veneer from Home Depot. I print my first basic without any carving, print my next one with a bit of carvings, and I keep adding up more images by carving and keep printing. For one woodcut, I repeat this process from minimum nine times to maximum twenty times. In the end, the woodcut is completely carved or broken into pieces.
