Heinz-Josef Mess, was given to the world in April of 1955, born in the small village of Legden in the region of Münsterland, NRW, Germany. His education was focused on the family business, directed into advertising and design, since he was the son of a contractor. This education was not so pleasant, struggling to expreess himself outside of the confined structure, he longed for "freedom" and this planted the seed for his early years. At the early age of six, H.J. Mess was inspired by the images of his local church windows lit up with scenes from the 14th century. "The colors which represent the "holy" and the "poor" have always fascinated me. My grandma told me that there are "artists" who could place that feeling in the hearts of others. That place, that's where I wanted to be. Helping others through my painting, reaching them and inspiring them to go higher." Against the will of his parents and without their support, he set off on his journey and continued his artistic struggle. Freedom, love and the path of the artist have shaped his life to this day.
