Marjanne Beeuwkes was born in 1953 in Zaandam (near Amsterdam, the Netherlands). Now living and working in Alphen aan den Rijn.

Her work is mostly abstract and is characterized as expressive and lyrical. Central in her work stands the revealing of the beauty of transience. Her inspiration mainly comes forth from ancient cultures, old buildings and objects, eroded walls and materials.

The basis of the painting can grow from an abstract image or from concrete observations. By creating a distance from the existing shape of the subject, it is no longer reminded by its original function. During the process of painting, the metamorphosis takes its hold. Step by step, layer after layer, she ventures into an unknown landscape.

She is using several materials, such as sand, rests of paper, textile, scrap material. Due to the alternate use of material, she continually comes across new challenges, new inspiration, a new experiment. Characteristic for her work is the variation, both in the themes and atmospheres, as well as in the use of colours en materials.
