About The Artwork

In the 1980's Melvyn Bragg bought three of my original paintings the first one being a commission in the far Northern reaches of the English Lake District. This little gem of original watercolour supplied in a 500 x 400 picture mount was the result of endless trips to the commission site and I just happened to see this nearby so I recorded it. A fabulous image of a bright Winter's day , crisp and clear and the magnificent ochres of the high ground and the sheep grazing just typified the essence of a English Lakeland day in Winter. The suggestion of the mountains in the background just lending an air of majesty to the whole scene. For them nothing changes in a 1000 years...

David Carter is the self made owner of the UK's leading manufacturer company of picture mounts who works in the English Lake District and lives in the Yorkshire Dales. . Trained as a graphic designer in the 1970's by 1984 David was one of the leading illustrators recording in acrylic paint the life and times of the shepherds and native Herdwick sheep hill flocks of sheep in the English Lakes. His original paintings grace the walls of the great and the good as far afield as the USA and the UK. Today with a grown family and a new life David is creating a series of detailed pencil drawings that reflect the people and the landscapes that are there all around him with the love of his family, his partner and the gentle Dales and rugged mountains of the Lakes. His first drawing "High Mountain Days" a dedication to his son and a reflection as to whether he can reach back in time to the high peaks of his exemplary standards of 30 years ago. Like the mountains he loves .. slow and steady back to the top..
