Artist JinYoung M Choi: A Painter of Light and Hope JinYoung M Choi is an artist whose work is characterized by the delicate interplay of light and hope. Specializing in painting and drawing, Choi predominantly works with acrylics, charcoal, conte, and mediums on linen and paper. Her artistic journey began in earnest with her first group exhibition at Gallery Insaart in December 2019, followed by her debut solo exhibition, *Jin Young Choi Solo Exhibition: The Glimmer and Form of Hope*, at Seoul Gallery within the Seoul Newspaper building in July 2021. From a very young age, Choi has been deeply contemplative about life and its inevitable cycles of creation and dissolution. This contemplation fuels her artistic endeavors, as she seeks to capture and convey that elusive, almost inexpressible sense of hope—something akin to light itself—within the material realm. Choi approaches the act of painting as a heartfelt ritual, a tribute to the transient nature of nearly all things. It brings her immense joy to imagine that her work might inspire viewers to perceive the preciousness of life and the subtle light of hope within it. ◦ Biography 1980 Born in Geoje Island of South Korea 2001 Associate Degree of Cartoon Arts, Graduated from the Department of Cartoon Arts of Kongju National University 2000-2016 game visual concept artist, graphic designer, illustrator. 2019 Childbirth / First group exhibition 《Seumseum 2019》 Gallery Insaart, Seoul 2020 Farewell to the cat / Resolution: Decided to name myself as a "Recording-Play-backer" and Living as an Artist 2021 First solo Exhibition 《Glitters And Shapes Of The Hope》 Seoul Gallery, Seoul Ⅱ ● ▶ ‘PAUSE-RECORD-REPLAY’ is the way of letting me endure or transcend, finiteness of life. I regard PAUSE RECORD REPLAY as my art method. Pause' and 'Replay' are opposite states such as negative(Ying) and positive(Yang) but I have found that they mean completeness anywhere during PAUSE and REPLAY. And 'Record' is an observation intervention, at that time the author becomes a recorder, that is, a witness at the creation.
