'Untitled' Painting

I am an intuitive abstract painter; my practice is an exploration of surface and texture primarily through the medium of paint, PVA, gloss medium and pigments. I gain inspiration from my own personal thoughts and feelings, which I then transfer on to the canvas. I layer and manipulate paint with a number of different tools, so, the environment, which I am working in, and my body movement in relation to the space around me, plays an influential role in the creation of my pieces. The physicality is hugely important ... each brush stroke, movement of paint and mix of colours helps me create considered chaos in my paintings, whilst also transferring my movement as the artist. I also involve the use of water and paint reacting with various pigments. This creates a more dramatic effect and I do this by playing with the level of drama within each piece by, pouring, scraping, smudging and reapplying helping to create intricate layers and marks.
