On family vacations to the rocky mountains I was always looking for pretty rocks, especially turquoise. In the early days of silver mining, turquoise wasn't considered valuable and the rock rubble put on roadways often had turquoise in it. 

 Encaustic wax is beeswax and resin mixed with pigments, melted and painted in thin layers. Each layers is heat fused to the ones below. These paintings are durable and archival for century's to come.
