This artwork was created during a 2 month artist residency in 2017. I wanted to create some expressive paintings which built on my previous paintings and the way my depression is cyclic in nature. I remembered spin paintings from when I was a child which I enjoyed. Using colour schemes from other works I tried to express different ideas. I used a mixture of spinning the canvas on a potters wheel and work on the easel. The painting is on a circular stretch canvas.

Martin Hyde is a UK-based artist whose deeply personal work explores themes of identity, mental health, and the complexities of human emotion. Living with depression has profoundly shaped Martin's creative journey, inspiring artwork that is both intimate and universal. His paintings often navigate the interplay between abstraction and figurative representation, creating a unique tension that invites the viewer to engage on multiple levels. Martin’s artwork has gained recognition beyond the canvas, having been featured on numerous vinyl album covers, where his bold use of color and layered compositions have brought music to life visually. This collaboration with musicians reflects the versatility and universal appeal of his art, making it a favorite among collectors and creatives alike. Through vibrant colors, dynamic textures, and layered imagery, Martin’s art captures the fragmented yet interconnected nature of human experience. His work delves into the process of masking and unmasking identity, offering a raw and evocative perspective on vulnerability and resilience. The balance between figurative elements and abstraction allows each piece to resonate emotionally while leaving room for personal interpretation. Martin’s art transforms struggle into beauty, creating pieces that are not only visually captivating but also rich with meaning. Collectors are drawn to the originality, emotional depth, and cultural impact of his work, finding in it a reflection of their own stories and experiences. For those seeking unique, thought-provoking art, Martin Hyde's paintings offer an unforgettable journey into the heart of what it means to be human.
