Tantrum Painting

Working across mixed media, I aim to distill concepts of childhood nostalgia and the complexities of the current self into expressive abstracted paintings. My whimsical compositions mix lush colors and interesting textures to evoke my personal memories and experiences navigating girlhood to womanhood. While I work, I start with an intention or memory, often exploring complex themes including sexuality, identity, spirituality, economics and mortality. A synergistic narrative takes flight between the layers of paint, offering up a colorful escape to the viewer. My work is executed in an interactive and intuitive process, each new mark informing the placement of the next mark. Often beginning with a single color of acrylic paint, additional strokes, lines, shapes, sprays and splatters are layered atop. Peppered with energetic marks of crayon, pencils, markers and pastels, my paintings aim to conjure up feelings of playfulness, power and rebelliousness.
