I started to draw at the age of five when I was introduced to a pencil. As we were dead poor and a blank sheet of paper was a luxury, I sometimes drew on the back and front blank pages in storybooks. Much to everybody's dismay- and amazement with the results of the drawings. I grew up on a farm and was always fascinated by the rural people around me, they were my best friends, I was amazed at the way how they made ends meat from basics and still do today. During high school I wasn't a star pupil because me and my bestie used to sit at the back of class drawing everyone around us that was always followed by giggles and some not so pleasant repercussions. University is a blur as I had to follow a course prescribed by my dominant father- art was not a job according to him. So I did what I had to do, always with some book on art by my side. In the process I never took life for granted and had my share of fun, ups and downs which have reflected in my art over time. Later in life I moved to cities and was blessed to travel all over the world. I got a new perspective on life but wherever I went I was always inspired by the way light on any subject or person can change a picture. The city vibes made me feel alive, as the ever changing light influenced the sights in front of me. It took a long while for me to seriously get into painting as I knew I always wanted to do art. I grabbed every opportunity to do so and once I got started I got more inspired. With the result that even today whenever I'm working on a project I am driven by insomnia, I then mostly get up at night and continue with my art project until my mind and body can't go any further, or when I'm finished with the project. For me it feels like a creative worm that needs to get out. During my training I found that impressionism is my forte, it spilled over in all my art pieces as well as the abstracts where feelings and emotions pop spontaneously out of my head! Like any artist I have loads of ideas but do sometimes have to make use of photographs or images, my own as well as sourced ones. I try to stay true to my own ways and ideas as originality is the essence of any artwork. Like any artist I sometimes try to reflect issues in life through my work, with the hope to inspire others....
