I grew up in Stockport, Manchester, UK and had a traditional Grammar school education - taking 0 level art and A level art, then a foundation course in art and design before qualifying with a degree in Graphic Design and visual communication - which was very focused on illustration, conceptual thinking and visual communication. I then started a career in advertising. After 20 years working in advertising agencies as an art director using traditional visualising skills on a daily basis and then it started to change - the craft has now been replaced with apple macs, and I reallised I was missing the drawing and visualising aspect of my job, returning to painting has added so much more to my design work in terms of composition and breaking the subject matter down into its most basic elements. I work as a freelance designer, illustrator and art director on web and design projects as well as illustration work. I am currently working on two exhibitions, a mixture of traditional painting, digital work and silkscreen prints. Two significant changes in my life have led to me to produce artwork that reflects these events. My urban landscapes are a development of some early iphone brushes work and are all about capturing that passing visual moment that can happen with the blink of an eye, living in the moment and being aware of the "here and now". I am also looking at the relationship between digital art and painting, my iphone has now become a sketchbook of ideas. I will be sharing those ideas, concepts and paintings here.
