Mary Jane Miller has been a full-time artist dedicated to iconography for over 30 years in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She paints and teaches the ancient Byzantine-style art of Icon writing as a prayer form. Her understanding of its spiritual symbolic language and her dedicated skill result in an experience that is deeply meditative as well as artistic. She teaches using the traditional medium of egg tempera, hand-tooled pewter, and gold leaf. Her magnificent and unique studio in Mexico is open by appointment. Celebrated saints, the Mary Collection, Women in Iconography, and Feast Day Byzantine iconography are available to browse on Mary Jane's Websites, San Miguel Icons, or Miller Icons Miller says she has no idea if her work has any lofty or pious importance. However, she does know that each time she immerses the brush to stir the paint, a spiral of color is formed. This spiral reminds her of eternity and constant change. It is enough for her to witness this magnificent tiny world of paint, revealing its life force and message. Mary Jane Miller is being made whole by the paint, which teaches throughout icon painting workshops. Thank you for listening.
