ABOUT// Annika Horstmann is a german-based contemporary abstract artist, who is currently living and working in northern-germany. Main artistic influences and sources of inspiration come from human energies, self-exploration, and the interconnections of all beings. Annika Horstmann discovered her niche for creative work and artistic expressions at a young age. Early on she began to play with colours and materials, finding new ways to combine and manipulate the visual. With the open eye of a child, she was sightless for conventions and rules and experimented true to her instinct. What began in a playful way, soon developed to a deep curiosity for the facets of a creative mind. Her style is minimalistic and focused. It centers around the mission to create intensity and dynamic with clarity and purpose. She uses mixed materials like acrylics, crayons, graphite’s, and ink and goes beyond regular paint brushes when she uses dry paint, spatulas, and twigs for her artwork, staying true to her experimental self. Canvas and paper inhabit a significant function in Annika Horstmanns artwork as their texture and appearance highly influence the spirit and atmosphere of the piece. During her 3 years education in graphic and object design, she was able to inhale more knowledge about composition and arrangement of layouts and designs and further crafted her skills. During her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration she kept on teaching herself and used art as her creative outlet during that time. Horstmanns artwork deals with the blank spaces and what’s left unseen, rather than what is shown and visible. Her art leaves room for the eye to rest and for the mind to find serenity and vigour. In the past she spent time in the united states and eastern europe.
