My medium is acrylic on canvas. I use a variety of acrylic paints, mixing heavy body with high flow hues to get the right layer, contrast, or relationship between each stroke. I use palette knives and brushes and mostly my hands... My inner artist surfaced one day when I was walking the aisles of Hobby Lobby. It was the only art store I could find in my new city, Lafayette, Indiana. I was born and raised on the North Shore of Chicago, but moved to Lafayette when I married my husband. So, that day in Hobby Lobby, I bought a 48x24 inch canvas. This canvas sat in my home for the next year, until one day when my Dad came to visit and left me with my first easel, acrylic paint, and a pack of palette knives. This was the day that my artistic vision came to life. I do not have a formal education in art. I have a BA in Economics from University of Kansas. I am a certified Crisis Intervention Specialist with the MHA Crisis Center. I’ve worked for my family’s lighting company for the past decade. However, art is my passion, it feels natural. I grew up in a family of artists and collectors of contemporary art…developing an appreciation for artists like Robert Longo, Jene Highstein, Christopher Wool, Robert Mangold, to name a few. I am always inspired by Jackson Pollock.
