We interact with these tiny pictures automatically, but they deserve a closer look and a slower thought. I hand-paint them to slow down and to give myself and others a chance to reflect on what they mean to us. *** These small images keep tons of meaning. I’m fascinated when I see how it unfolds. When I name a painting, I assign my meaning to it. When someone sees my painting, they assign their meaning next to mine. Every painting is a point where flows of different meanings converge for a viewer. *** I am Julia Lorien, a self-taught artist, born in Ukraine, live and work in San Francisco.
