Red Velvet Painting

I started painting later in life after a career in law. I found it calming and enriching. I work in an abstract, bold manner and my medium of choice is acrylic paint in neutral colors frequently adding a disruptive element to generate great contrast I start my paintings with no predetermined goal, often creating random marks loosing myself in the canvas. My intuition guides the whole process and allows my work to evolve. Once the foundation is laid my approach is more deliberate as shapes appear revealing multiple possibilities. My shapes come up unannounced and unexpectedly and I accept and value whatever appears on the canvas as long as it is pleasing to my eye and mood. I apply many layers of paint and many times I sand, scrape and wash, so my work reveals some of its history Ultimately my creative process is fueled by a need to find a sense of balance between chaos and control. Using different mediums and textures I represent feelings of joy calm and serenity. As an artist I want to convey what is pleasing and gratifying to me allowing the viewers the freedom to ponder my work and express their own thoughts or emotions.
