About The Artwork

Following the death of my baby, Aurora Annette, the early grief was intense and overwhelming. I would be depressed for days, mourning my infant daughter, while at the same time, learning to be a new mom to her surviving identical twin sister. Even just looking back on the first year after Aurora died, I feel like I missed her all of her sister's first year milestones, because the grief took over my life, covered everything in darkness and black. I acknowledge the progress that I have made in my grief journey, as more and more time passes. However, the pain of grief never goes away, and it sneaks up on you when you're having a perfectly fine day, and then it rips you apart all over again. All of a sudden the progress you've made feels like it never happened because you're right back to crying your eyes out and feeling like you'll never get through this. Anyway, that is what this painting portrays.

Angelina Salgado is a visual artist and has always been drawn to bright colors, which are a hallmark of her artwork and personal style. She creates colorful paintings in watercolor and gouache, featuring holographic and iridescent details, created with colorshif paint. The paints are handmade in small batches and contain cosmetic-grade, light-reflective, metallic, and glitter pigments, which makes the colors of the Aurora shift subtly when viewed from different angles. Angelina is the brand ambassador for three of those artisan paintmakers: @ColoringBrittany, @WatercolorCandies, & @wonderful_watercolors. Angelina Salgado is visual artist and art educator, based in NJ. The eldest daughter of Filipino immigrants, Angelina was born and raised in New York. She received her AAS in Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology, pursued a double major in Art History and Studio Art at Hunter College, then earned her Master’s degree in Art and Museum Education from the City College of New York. She has taught in several art museums and cultural institutions across NYC, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Brooklyn Museum. She brought her eclectic experience in art and museum education to the elementary art classroom, first, at a charter school in Harlem, then two elementary public schools in Northern NJ. She continues to teach art, although no longer to small children. Angelina leads paint and puff classes with Garden State of Mind. She paints everyday and her artwork has been featured in gallery exhibitions in New York City and northern New Jersey.
