Hydra Painting

The paintings you see here are part of my 15th solo exhibition, "Sturm Und Drang". I painted them throughout 2022, and during the final construction of the show, I added some paintings from previous years that fit the theme I was taking up. This time these are very personal paintings (because daily I do not support combining art with life). I am an artist and a mother of a young teenage girl. For the past year, I have been looking at the turbulent and challenging growing up, pupation, and painful transformation - which indirectly affected me too, because we are close and live together. It seemed that I had it all behind me, but the memories of my youth returned. And I decided to paint pictures of it. Young girls are secretly smoking cigarettes, uncontrollable anger at the world, hands "tied" by conventions and orders, tears, rebellion, the mess in the room and parties with friends, waiting late at night for a message from the person they love, emotions. That's what these pictures are about. Sturm Und Drang is German for Storm and Pressure; this term was coined to describe a section of romantic literature, in which the most famous item was the book "Sorrows of Young Werther".
