Love of life
About Tina Hees pictorial universe
If we summarize Tina Hees art briefly, it must be the energy, imagination and the pleasure of storytelling.

The first thing one notices when facing her paintings is the vibrant energy running through the canvases. Unlike other painters who focus attention on one or two fixed points in the composition, she spreads the attention across the entire picture surface as a mosaic. Think of Matisse's paintings, for example, "The red room" of 1908. It is from this principle of composition that Tina Hee works. All parts have equal value; the eye passes around the picture and enjoys the tapestry of figurative motives as well as abstract signs and symbols. A swarm that never evolves into chaos because Tina Hee has absolutely control of the colour. What we see are paintings in harmony, in balance and dynamic balance.

The next we notice is the imagination that Tina Hees images radiate. A fantasy, like surrealism and the Cobra artists, it derives its nourishment from the subconscious, of dreams, fairy tales, myths and other goodies. Look closely and you discover some shapes that are repeated in most paintings, including birds and a little man who, undaunted, cycles into this imaginative universe. This little man Tina Hee calls Johannes. The same name was the protagonist from H.C. Andersen's "The Traveling Companion" which is a story about life's journey. Tina Hees "Johannes" is a symbol of all people, you and me and our journey through life. He's also been the subject of some of the sculptures that the artist has begun to work with. Tina Hees art expresses, in general, the curiosity of all living things, big or small, as in the work of H.C. Andersen, who was a pure master at portraying this.

The joy of storytelling is clear, for it is this makes us stop and explore the images in Tina Hees world. Firstly there are the characters: dogs, birds, cats, horses, humans and pure fantasy creatures. Creatures that emerge from the pulsating and vibrating colourful universe and draw attention to themselves. Usually in good spirits and full of courage, because Tina Hees art is a positive and cheerful art.
