ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Mount of Ararat has been an inspiration for Armenian artists for centuries. It's exposure to the valley lying below, being a beautiful sight from above, has been a beloved scene for artists, poets, composers and filmmakers in historic and modern Armenia alike. The mountain is mentioned in the Bible first as the site of the landing of the Ark of Noah, and later as the toponymic of the country to which the sons of a certain king flee. In this picture the greater of the two main peaks is shown in clouds as well as graced with the rays of the rising sun, as seen from the Ararat Valley in today's Armenia.

The foundation of the creative work of the artist Gagik Khachatryan is fundamental knowledge, the academic study of old masters and understanding the importance of the heritage of world art. Khachatryan creates compositions, portraits, landscapes, etc., where there is always a picturesque beginning. The painter creates portraits of a psychological mood, his style is characterized by the humanization of the portrait. At the same time, he does not lose the features of this particular portrait (character, facial features, etc.). The era of Socialist Realism in the Soviet Union was not unambiguous. For example, painting curators during their studies at the Academy were not so focused on Russian Soviet painting, but on European and world painting. For example, such masters as Velazquez, Rembrandt, Goya, El Greco, Delacroix, Titian, Jan Vermeer, Van Dyck, Gainsborough. And later, Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, Cezanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Clint, Turner, Serov, Konchalovsky, Korovin, and others, influenced the work of the artist Gagik Khachatryan. Gagik Khachatryan was born in 1953 in Armenia. He is married, has two children.
