As a young boy from a seaside village of West Bengal, Harisadhan Dey was in awe of the real-life drama of village people. Religious social rituals, village shrines, living images of the famous Gangasagar mela cast a spell on him. Harisadhan works closely with rhythms and realities related to the rural masses. The colours of traditional rituals and celebrations invoke a deep sense of spirituality in him. Chiaroscuro of nature, human form and expression is a hallmark of his work.
