Sensory | Emotional Abstraction. Emily is a self-taught artist whose practice is heavily influenced by her neurodivergence and deep desire to feel. Having played in various arts throughout her life, namely in music and theatre, Emily desperately craved an outlet for her intuitive visual thinking. She experimented broadly on this journey from figurative to video, with work commissioned for a number of public arts organisations including City of Culture Coventry Trust, Unlimited, Shoot Festival and Tate Modern Exchange. But then she fell in love. She fell head over heels for the immediacy of mark making, the purest form of painting and communicating ideas, creating instantaneously but never carelessly. Through this the artist can unlock and begin to process gut emotions, attempting to capture the ineffable, its complex simplicity, and respond to her sensory and emotional world in the expressionism of abstract painting. This desire to feel and reckon with the results on canvas is her home. It is what she does best. With this in mind, Emily decided it was time to take a leap of faith, to try and make a living out of it, attempting to capture those moments in beautiful pieces for your space, so we can feel together.
