Born in Suffolk in 1969, Anabel Campbell is an abstract artist living and working in London. After graduating from Wimbledon School of Art with a degree in Costume, Anabel embarked on a brief career in the film industry, before returning to her first love of painting. Working primarily in an abstract style, her painting is an instinctive dialogue between colour and texture. Inspired by Abstract Expressionist painters such as Mark Rothko, Gerhard Richter, Clyfford Still and Frank Bowling, Anabel’s paintings are concerned with the expressive power of colour. She builds the painting in layers over time, exploring the materiality of the paint, the changing surfaces allowing glimpses of colour as the compositions evolve into thickly textured canvases. Anabel’s work explores the idea of chance and the beauty of the imperfect; each painting is created with no pre conceived outcome in mind with each layer of paint being determined by the last. A series of serendipity.
