I prefer art that cannot be read immediately. Art that demands, confronts, intrigues or otherwise keeps you coming back for another look, meaning, texture, emotional reaction or something, a feeling I cannot describe, is art that moves me and that I try to create.

Sometimes it is only colors, but ultimately hints at deeper interpretations. That is why the work is not titled.

The real test is to see something new over time of looking. Learning to see is perhaps the most difficult art.

The best work happens quickly. I try to paint purely on emotion and mood. It either works or it doesn't.

More often than not, something I had no intention of creating comes to the fore either during the process or after. I live for the creative accident. Frankly, there are no "accidents," only revelations of self.

Mental difficulty can drive me for more often than not to dark manifestations of raw emotion, meaning only I can read.

Some of my favorite artists:

Oliver Jackson, Susan Rothenberg, Joan Mitchell, Motherwell's Elegy paintings, Barnett Newman, Twombly, the other Richard Serra, Eric Fischl, Kline, Soulanges, etc. So many.

Inspiration comes from music that moves me when painting. I try to attain a state of absolute involvement with the work and try not to think.

I do look a lot to see where something is going, but never know where exactly it will end up.

The images will be updated with better quality asap.
