Ene Yakno-Abasi Jessicah, born in 1998, stands out as an emerging abstract realism artist based in vibrant Lagos, Nigeria. Her artistic journey took root in her early passion for art, propelling her to become one of the distinguished graduates in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Uyo, where she specialized in Textiles. Renowned as a textile specialist, Yakno's artistic exploration expanded to painting in 2019, driven by a profound appreciation for the expressive qualities of the medium. Raised in a close-knit family primarily composed of women, her art is a reflection of the deep bonds with her sisters, drawing inspiration from shared experiences, challenges, and treasured memories. Beyond the canvas, Yakno actively champions feminism and women's empowerment through her work, using art as a powerful tool to inspire women, particularly those in third-world countries facing systemic challenges. Utilizing mixed media and a vibrant color palette, she skillfully crafts stylized characters, seamlessly blending 2D elements with the richness, proximity, gestures, and values of 3D imagery. This approach adds layers of texture and depth, enhancing the expressiveness and perceptual experience of her paintings for all viewers. Yakno has not only graced group exhibitions and art sales in Nigeria but has also found her place in individual and corporate collections, both in her home country and abroad.
