I am Yehia Abouelnaga, but you may know me as the "Paper Pan." My art is a reflection of my deep fascination with swirling patterns inspired by Islamic art. Through the use of hot pans and paper pulp, I meticulously craft intricate forms that truly come alive. These creations not only showcase my Egyptian heritage, but also embody my profound interest in chaos theory and the beauty that emerges from it. The process I employ involves pouring pulp onto a hot pan and skillfully shaping the paper as it dries. This allows me to capture the essence of swirling lines and dynamic forms, creating forms that are in a perpetual state of motion and energy. With every piece I create, I aim to convey the interconnectedness of all things, from the tiniest particles to the vast structures of the universe. For me, it's more than just art; it's a way to bridge the gap between science and creativity. I draw inspiration from the concept of strange attractors in chaos theory, which parallel the vortexes I find so captivating in Islamic art. These patterns symbolize the cyclical nature of life and the universe, reflecting the constant search for faith and meaning, much like the revolving of Sufis. I believe that we are all products of chaos in one way or another. Our lives are like parallel lines, leaving traces behind us that form a magnificent pattern of chaos. By exploring these hidden shapes and lines in nature, such as magnetic fields and turbulent flows, I uncover the underlying beauty that shapes our world. When you witness my paper sculptures in person, you'll witness the power of creativity and the beauty that emerges from chaos. I invite you to join me on this artistic journey as I bring together my love for papermaking, my Egyptian heritage, and my fascination with chaos theory. Together, let's discover the hidden connections and awe-inspiring beauty that exist within the chaos of our universe.
