ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The title of this large male nude is an allusion to the ritual phrase that the gladiators of the Roman Empire pronounced when entering the arena, their arms outstretched to greet the personality who presided over the games and fights of the day. Here, the man is not about to fight in an arena, he is simply half-lying down, half-sitting on the ground on a wooden floor, naked, a modern and decadent version of the warrior sacrifice of Antiquity. In this version of the work on canvas, the photographic and digital visual has been "vandalized" with a black and copper spray can, the face and sex of the man censored, and the title of the painting drawn in relief in black on black top right. This artwork is made in mixed media on canvas. It combines photography, digital art and acrylic painting (lacquered glazes and raised squares), it is a one-of-a-kind piece and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The painting is framed in black wood (dimensions: 81 x 136 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 80 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
