I was raised in Scarborough, a seaside resort in North Yorkshire, on the northeast coast of England. I moved away in my late teens, and lived in various towns and countries, before returning in my early thirties. It is a beautiful part of the country and it also has a great artistic community. Scarborough and its surrounding area serve as a constant source of inspiration, particularly the rough seas, big clouds, stormy weather and above all the elements. Not so much a hot sunny day. However, I also get a kick out of what I call, ‘beauty in the mundane’ and you will find me taking numerous photographs of cracked pavements, shadows, peeling paint, and anything that creates an interesting composition. Prior to becoming a full-time artist, I enjoyed a successful career in textile design for over three decades, working on everything from fabric designs for the automotive industry to creating handmade printed felt products for my own business. While I initially specialised in textiles after completing a foundation course in art and design in my early twenties, painting has always been a constant in my life. Over the years, I've gained extensive experience as an artist, and have showed my work in numerous exhibitions in both art and textiles. I'm fascinated by the interplay of different media and textures, and I love experimenting with novel combinations to create striking, one-of-a-kind pieces. However, I'm also careful to consider archival quality and strive to create work that will stand the test of time. Although my pieces can be found in private collections worldwide, I've yet to have any work placed in public collections. However, I'm excited about the possibilities the future holds as I continue to grow and explore as an artist.
